It's good to ask for directions if you are lost! The most powerful healing work I have done came during my years of "reformatting my operating system", through bodymind therapy. I recommend shopping for a therapist who has a plan for identifying the faulty, core admonition learning that is running your life, as well as a process for eliminating and replacing it.
By phone nationwide, or in the San Diego area, I recommend:

Do you love children? How about loving yourself as one?  A young tree is affected by it's planting and early growing conditions, and these effects create a pattern of growth that is seen in the same tree decades later.   So are we in this world.   What is your birth story?   Did Mom feel supported by Dad?   Did you get taken from your Mom immediately and put in an incubator?   What happened in your nervous system at that time?   Nobody I know addresses this more directly than
Ray Castellino.

Are other people affecting your happiness?  Do they remind you of other people who bugged you in the past?  Change you and see what happens! I learned a lot, and healed recurrent, looping emotional/mental pain, in the basically free meetings (bring $1 or more to donate) of codependents anonymous.
My experience was that some meetings were good and some not so good. I found it useful to shop for a meeting where the structure was sound, and where there were experienced members. I went every week for over a year.   I noticed that the more reluctant I was to say something aloud, the more I needed to do it: I was exposing my self to my Self.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
the courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.

There are also 12 step meetings for other behavioral and substance addictions. These addictions are generally the surface level to address as/before working on the deeper issue of exploring relationship needs.
